The Peak of Kežmarský, 29 august, 2007

One evening I was browsing the Internet space and a Czech site appeared on the screen. There were several depictions of ascents. Of course, I downloaded all High Tatras´ ascents. We decided to degrade the peakk of Kežmarský as first. As if there weren´t enough people we got only three of us together: Ivka The Experience - taking, Peťo The Photo-maniak and me, Miro The Writing.

We arrived at Tatranská Lomnica in early morning. We striked a classic path up to Skalnaté Tarn with a perspective of a fine day - just a few sheep in the sky. As we began to round the tarn someone must have got angry with us. A thick mist began to roll from behind the crest like in an awkward Slovak tale. After crossing the saddle of Svišťovka we hesitated whether to go on. We proceeded some step to get a sight. I don´t know how but soon we were in, proceeding on. Alternatingly I clasped the Czech description which prooved to be very helpful in several spots. Those who tried this peak know about the fabulous slab with a long crack across which has an impressive steepness. Truely we were pretty confused whether to climb, this passage really. The description was quite precise - up across the steep cracked slab. From this spot our thoughts were fixed on the descent down this slab.

It´s one of passages where one could get dead pretty easily, but who would be so stupid...? In the mist we reached the summit of Little Kežmarský, where some peaks showed themselves - Lomnický, Pyšný, etc. In about 3 hours from the tarn we got to the most elevated rock of Big Kežmarský (2 565 m). Well ..., the cracked slab appeared before us again. The view from above is even more impressive. After some jiffs of hesitation, we went down. Fixed on a rope it would be easy, so ... it´s upon you. We were lucky, or rather no accident happened to us. Nice climb up, worth be done. The weather needed.
